Studio Classes

Studio classes are held throughout the semester on Friday evenings at Potomac Arts Academy.

Activities will vary from week to week and will include...
  • Confidence building opportunities through pressure-free solo performances for their peers. Through frequent performance chances, students will be more prepared to perform in any situation without stage-fright.
  • Audition preparation for students planning on auditioning for an orchestra, competition, or college program.
  • Solfege and singing activities to help the students develop their musical hearing and their sense of pitch and harmony.
  • Rhythm and clapping games to develop the students' personal senses of rhythm and improved ensemble skills.
  • Practicing elements of violin technique in a group setting to reinforce the skills being developed in the private lessons.
  • Listening to and discussing music in various styles and genres.
  • Watching videos of both current and historical performers to learn from them.
  • Learning about famous composers and their music.
  • Learning about music history to be able to place the music we perform today in context.
  • Ice-breakers and team-building activities to develop a sense of community in our studio.

Occasional activities may include:
  • Public performances at community venues.
  • Learning violin ensemble music so that students can learn to work together as a team, develop good ensemble-playing skills, and take turns both leading and following.
