Program Overview
- Semester system of scheduling from September - December and January - June, with flexible summer lessons.
- A 30, 45, or 60 minute private lesson once a week to develop the student's playing through learning pieces, scales, and exercises.
- Opportunity to participate in group classes at Potomac Arts Academy on Saturday mornings twice a month
- 4 recital opportunities a year.
- Parental involvement: parents of beginning and intermediate students are required to attend the lessons and take notes as well as to support the student's practicing and the creation of a musical environment in the home.
- Use of the Suzuki method books for beginning and intermediate students as core repertoire.
- Use of scales, etudes, and other repertoire to create a well-balanced and varied selection of music for the student's study and performance.
- Playing folk tunes and popular music for the student's enjoyment.
- Study of music theory and history to give a thorough working knowledge of how music is put together and how it fits in historical context.
- Daily listening to the Suzuki recordings as well as other classical violin pieces to develop a sophisticated ear.
- Concert attendance to observe professional musicians at work.
Private Lessons
The private lesson is your personal time with Ms. Allen, who will carefully select materials and plan lessons according to your own abilities and needs. The real work of learning how to play violin takes place in the private lessons. Lessons go according to the student's own pace and opportunities for students to ask questions and provide feedback are always provided.
Studio Classes
At Potomac Arts Academy, studio classes will be held once a month on Friday evenings from 6:30 pm - 8 pm.
